Today's 'wine find' takes us to Austria and is about a grape I dearly love, Grüner Veltliner. I first fell in love with Grüner when I realized how well it paired with intensely flavoured Caribbean food and conversation! (Yes, the grape and I are on a first name basis.) So when I found a Grüner on the LCBO vintages shelf, sub $20, I had to pick it up. Could this be my new house white, and I mean my literal house?

About the Rabl Löss Grüner Veltliner 2022
The Rabl Löss Grüner Veltliner 2022 is an easy drinking white wine that is suitable for any deep conversation with friends or a chance meeting on a patio. Its subtle wheat hue and green flecks literally pale in comparison to the nose and palate. On the nose, the scents of citrus, pear, peach, ripe green apple, honeydew melon, white flowers, and flint provide the gateway. On the palate, the nose persists while adding notes of blood orange, and white pepper.
The Rabl Löss Grüner Veltliner 2022 drank exceptionally well on its own and with lighter salads. It is not suitable for more flavoured foods but that's ok by me. I am always looking for an affordable and approachable Grüner for my patio hangs!
In case you were wondering, the term "Löss" refers to the specific soil type found in the vineyards where these grapes are grown, characterized by its rich mineral content and excellent drainage properties, which contribute to the wine's quality.
