LCBO Find: Verraco Ridge Monterey County Cabernet Sauvignon

Today's wine find takes us to California's Monterey County, where the mountain ranges, fog, and oceanic influences tickle any wine lover who just also happens to be an environmental geography fan. Our wine comes from

Verraco Ridge Wiley Ranch Vineyard

Verraco Ridge

Verraco Ridge was founded by the Zaninovich family, who have a long history of grape growing, dating back over a century. The family's journey began in Central Europe, but they relocated to California due to a Phylloxera blight that affected European vineyards. In the early 1970s, they recognized the potential of Monterey County's Arroyo Seco wine region and established vineyards there, leading to the creation of Verraco Ridge.

About Verraco Ridge Monterey County Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

The 2019 Verraco Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is a standout example of Monterey County winemaking. On the nose, aromas of black cherry, red currant, and dark cassis, complemented by vanilla, and mocha. On the palate you will find layers of tart berry and plum flavours that echo the aromatic profile. In the end the result is a well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon that offers a giving finish.

The 2019 Verraco Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, and 3% Petite Verdot. (According to TTB rules, if a wine has 75% or more of one variety, the bottle can be labelled as that grape.)

Fun Fact: This Cabernet Sauvignon gets its name from the wild boars that roam the area, called 'Verraco' in Spanish.

The 2019 Verraco Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon can be purchased at the LCBO for $20.00, and can be found in the vintages section.
